Usain Bolt is looking beyond the Olympics and at the possibility of a race against the man who shocked the track and field world by obliterating a 17-year old world record in the 400m: South Africa's Wayde van Niekerk.

Bolt, the three-time 100m champion who could soon be a three-time 200m champion, suggested he would like to take on van Niekerk over 300m

"That would be a good race," said Bolt, according to media Sources. "He can't beat me over 200m. I am not worried about that, but I am really proud of him because when he came to Jamaica I said to him: 'Listen, you are the only person that I think can break this 400m world record'.
"He keeps on going, so for me I wasn’t really surprised that he got it. He looked in good shape.

"This year, I was hoping that I was in good shape when my coach told me that they were going to put on a 300m. I wasn't in the best of shape. Hopefully next season, if he's in good shape, we might get a chance to run."
The idea of the two squaring off over the unconventional distance conjures memories of when 100m champion Donovan Bailey of Canada took on American 200m champion Michael Johnson over 150m in Toronto in 1997 to determine the title of "fastest man in the world." Bailey won after Johnson, who trailed in the race, pulled up with an injury.
